Looking for a Maintenance & Engineering Manager in Johnstown, NY. We are looking for a strong hands-on leader who also has a background in making improvements in the department and also facility. Looking for someone with an engineering degree as well.

Ideally looking for someone from either the chemical manufacturing, resin manufacturing, or liquid filling manufacturing industries.

Salary: $105k-$135k (Potentially higher for the right candidate)

Bonus: Target Bonus of 10%

3 weeks vacation prorated

Benefits kick in date of hire

Day Shift roughly 8am-5pm

Maintenance & Engineering Manager

Position Summary

The Maintenance & Engineering Manager leads plant maintenance, engineering, equipment reliability, facilities, and improvement activities within a latex paint/colorant and resin manufacturing facility. This hands-on leadership role manages 5–15 maintenance employees and is responsible for maximizing equipment uptime, plant efficiency, and team performance.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and develop a team of 5–15 maintenance employees responsible for equipment and facility repairs.
  • Serve as a key decision-maker and problem solver for maintenance and production issues.
  • Manage staffing, schedules, overtime, attendance, performance, and employee accountability.
  • Lead plant-wide maintenance, equipment reliability, installations, upgrades, and facility projects.
  • Troubleshoot equipment and process issues to improve uptime, capacity, and efficiency.
  • Develop and improve preventive maintenance and reliability programs.
  • Drive improvements in OEE, productivity, throughput, quality, and material flow.
  • Lead equipment installation and modification projects, including cost, operational impact, and risk evaluation.
  • Participate in Lean Manufacturing and Continuous Improvement initiatives.
  • Ensure compliance with all safety, environmental, regulatory, and waste-management requirements.
  • Work closely with maintenance, production, engineering, and plant leadership.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering from an ABET-accredited program required; BSME preferred.
  • Previous maintenance/engineering leadership experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Experience leading maintenance and equipment installation in a high-volume batch manufacturing facility.
  • Knowledge of PLCs, AC/DC circuits, drives, machine controls, and equipment troubleshooting.
  • Experience with equipment reliability and preventive maintenance programs.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Must be a hands-on leader comfortable working directly on the production floor.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office, Microsoft Project, AutoCAD, and SAP preferred.
  • Automation controls, mechanical, and process engineering experience is a plus.

Physical Requirements

Must be able to work throughout a manufacturing environment, including frequent standing, bending, and walking, with occasional lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, and climbing stairs.
