CNC Machinist/ Programmer

MANUFACTURING PLANT IN WAUKESHA WI IS LOOKING FOR A DAY SHIFT CNC MACHINIST WHO CAN PROGRAM. 

SHIFT: 7AM-330PM

PAYS: $20-$30 HOURLY

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead Operator: Operate key CNC equipment, mentor and develop CNC operators, and maintain the work area.
  • Program Development: Create, test, and optimize G-code and M-code programs using CAM software (e.g., Mastercam, SolidWorks, or Edgecam) for 3, 4, and 5-axis horizontal machining.
  • Process Engineering: Determine the most efficient manufacturing sequence, including tool selection, spindle speeds, and feed rates to maximize tool life and part finish.
  • Fixturing and Workholding: Design and develop custom fixture layouts and setups to secure workpieces during horizontal machining cycles.
  • Blueprints and GD&T: Interpret complex engineering drawings and blueprints using Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) to ensure all components meet tight tolerances (often down to .0005).
  • Program Prove-Out: Conduct dry runs and test operations to “validate” new programs, making manual adjustments at the machine controller (e.g., Fanuc, Siemens) to ensure accuracy.
  • Quality Assurance: Perform first-piece and in-process inspections using precision tools like micrometers, calipers, and bore gauges.
  • Technical Support: Provide troubleshooting guidance to machinists and operators during set-up and production.

Requirements:
Required Skills and Qualifications

  • Technical Education: High school diploma or GED is the minimum; an Associate’s degree in manufacturing technology or a related engineering field is highly preferred.
  • Experience: Typically requires 2–5+ years of experience in CNC programming, specifically with multi-axis horizontal equipment.
  • Software Proficiency: Advanced knowledge of CAM platforms (Mastercam, SolidWorks) and simulation software.
  • Mathematical Aptitude: Strong proficiency in shop math, including algebra, geometry, and trigonometry.

Physical & Work Environment Requirements

  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, climb, and lift up to 50 lbs
  • Visual acuity for close inspection of machined parts and reading technical diagrams.

Preferred Qualifications (Nice to Have)

  • Experience in high-volume or high-mix manufacturing environments
  • Robotics troubleshooting (Fanuc, ABB, UR, etc.)
  • Lean / TPM / Reliability Maintenance experience
