Job Summary



Responsible for the ownership of facility process and manufacturing control systems. Takes lead in continued development and maintenance of Plant control systems including but not limited to planning, implementing, and maintaining stable and capable production/business processes as they pertain to equipment and process functionality and machine/equipment capabilities as they relate to safety, throughput, quality, equipment integrity, and monitoring and correcting related issues of process and manufacturing controls.



Major Job Accountabilities and Responsibilities




  • Develop and execute projects as assigned, including cost estimations, submittals, coordinating installation with production and maintenance, preparing documentation, develop SOP’s and assist in related employee training.
  • Assist other engineers/project managers by managing electrical and control components of plant projects, including cost estimations, submittals, coordinating installation with production and maintenance and documentation.
  • Provide electrical and controls support for the production operations and maintenance departments, including troubleshooting control and electrical issues and problem resolution as they relate to equipment and process downtime, throughput improvement, and or any safety concerns.
  • Work with IT group to modify and/or update PLC programs and communication programs as they relate to plant network.
  • Investigate and resolve issues associated with process and manufacturing controls
  • Maintain and update controls documentation, drawings, schematics and troubleshooting guides.
  • Programming, Troubleshooting and Documentation of PLC controls, HMI’s, vision systems and instrumentation.
  • Capture and document changes and update prints etc.
  • Provide assistance to troubleshoot and make improvements on all electrical equipment using input from production, maintenance supervisors, tradesmen, operators, vendors, and service providers.
  • Establish, maintain, update and administer electrical control plans.
  • Generate, prepare, and present regular reports to both internal and external stakeholders. Perform any related tasks as needed. Responsible for following all Safety and Environmental policies and procedures.
  • Accountable for Ensuring Compliance with all QC Requirements (GMP, HACCP) and Providing technical expertise to drive continuous improvement in product quality.
  • Manage Contractors as Necessary.






Minimum Education and Experience Requirements



  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or Electrical Engineering Technology (or related fields with applicable experience)
  • Five (5) years in Control Engineering preferred

Skills, Knowledge and Abilities





  • Possesses knowledge of technical information on the unit/area.
  • Demonstrates background knowledge of operating and maintenance procedure and process.
  • PLC knowledge and programming experience: Rockwell, OPTO, AB, Cognex vision, HMI, and low voltage power systems & instrumentation
  • Demonstrates electrical troubleshooting techniques at the component level, to include safe practices, testing equipment, and PPE.
  • Knowledgeable of electrical design and machine standards (NFPA, NEC, ANSI, ISO, etc.).
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office and working knowledge of AutoCAD
  • Demonstration of a working knowledge of SAP preferred

  • Requires daily contact with employees in other departments, specifically (but not limited to) departmental managers and Corporate Engineering Personnel


Special Working Conditions/Physical Requirements



  • Normal working schedule is daylight shift – flexible schedule and overtime to manage projects and optimize operations may be required.
  • Responds to urgent or emergency situations outside of normal working hours, as needed.
  • Works in seated or standing positions for prolonged periods of time, lifts and/or moves a minimum of thirty (30) pounds, climbs ladders/stairs and works on elevated platforms, works and travels throughout plant environment of varied temperatures and humidity, grasps and holds small objects, uses full range of motion, and wears personal protective equipment, as required.
  • Uses tools necessary to diagnose and troubleshoot as necessary.
  • Performs duties in confined space entries.
  • Works in general office and manufacturing plant environment.
